I've been using a Zyliss bottle stopper for a couple of years now. The vacuum mechanism works great - creates a strong seal. You can pick the bottle up by the stopper after locking it down.Using one of these stoppers makes a noticeable difference if it takes you a couple of days to finish a bottle of wine. I once tried switching to a decorative stopper without a vacuum mechanism - big mistake. I thew it away and went back to the Zyliss.They last forever. I replaced the first one before it wore out.

There are many types of bottle stoppers, and varying degrees of quality. I was familiar with this type from years ago, but hadn't had any luck finding them. In the meantime I tried a number of other brands and was repeatidly disappointed by bad fitting, or bad sealing stoppers. These fit snuggly and tightly. I've found them to work great in oversized beer bottles in addition to wine.

I bought these to replace a similar stopper I already own that is starting to wear out. I use it to stopper larger bottles of beer that I don't finish in one sitting. The trouble with the zyliss stoppers is that they are VERY difficult to close. Every time I close the lever it is so hard to snap into place that I expect some plastic part to just break. Maybe they will last and get easier, but I don't know. They do the job once closed, however. If buying again, I would try a different brand.
