Black Plastic Top Tasting Corks are used in place of the regular cork once the bottle has been opened to help preserve the wine for a few days. Once a wine has been opened oxygen will quickly start to oxidize the wine, and a tasting cork will not stop this process, but it will help slow it down. We bottled up some homemade Kaluha as Christmas presents, and used these to cork the bottles. We had them turned on their sides for a couple days with no signs of leaking (and no signs of the cork expanding, either...I may be naieve on the subject, but I doubt these are real cork). They're easy to use and did the job. Out of the 24 bottles we made, we did have one cork break inside the neck of the bottle, and it was difficult to remove without littering the Kaluha with pieces of cork. The others were fine, so these get a 4/5 from us.
