This pair - and especially the pink flamingo - is almost like transforming lawn kitsch into tacky wine bottle stoppers. Not that I am complaining because they are eye catching and completely unexpected.While the glass figures are beautifully made had they been constructed of plastic they would have had that totally tacky vibe. On the other hand they may have been too light and fragile to work as functional stoppers.I love the needle-like lower bodies of the stoppers. That design gives them balance and allows them to be easily inserted into any bottle regardless of how narrow the mouth. If you contrast this with the conical bodies of stoppers like the Disney's Mickey Mouse Bottle Stopper you will see what I mean.However, I am not as fond of the rubber stopper part of the design because it does not seal as easily as the helical sealing mechanism or the three O-ring system on other wine stoppers. However, once properly seated it does provide an airtight seal.If you love kitsch this is the perfect design. Just having the flamingo corking one of my wine bottles makes me want to watch a John Waters movie. This set also never ceases to make me smile - that alone makes this a great set of stoppers.
