The funnel is large enough to fit over most decanters, and there is a hook on the side so it could hang off the edge if the decanter was extra wide. The strainer is very fine and catches nearly all of the sediment. We emptied the last half of an old bottle of port through this, and it worked really, really well. I also like that the strainer is connected to the funnel with a small chain so there is no worry about them becoming separated in a drawer. Stainless steel and no issues so far with throwing them in the dishwasher.

The filter screen is quite coarse. It will catch pieces of cork and crusted sediment, but all of the fine sediment passes right through it. You start with a cloudy wine, filter it, and it remains just as cloudy.

This is a nice enough funnel--a little bigger than I imagined it would be, but probably the right size for wine. I bought it to strain some detritus out of a bottle of high-grade machine oil. This funnel's not made for the purpose, but it looked like it would do the job, and I couldn't find an oil strainer that I didn't have a cloth or paper filter, which I was afraid would absorb a lot of my rather expensive oil.Unfortunately, the wire-mesh strainer is not a filter and it's not fine. I haven't measured the mesh, and I don't have it in front of me, but my recollection is that it's not much finer than a window screen. I don't believe it would be an effective filter for removing sediment from wine, but if you mostly just need to strain out bits of broken cork, it might be satisfactory.
